Training camp ends at Coverciano dedicated to players of Senior Team interest. Mancini: “Positive impression”

Three days of work and 67 young players were involved in this new round of training camps organised by the FIGC, which started last year, to aid the transition of players from junior levels to senior level, and to increase the pool of players available. From Tuesday, players from Serie A, Serie B, and those playing abroad, were divided into two groups and met up at Coverciano to take part in the camp, which ended today.

Speaking to the Vivo Azzurro cameras, Head Coach Roberto Mancini commented on the work: “This training camp has given us a positive impression, because we've been able to get to know some players better who we only usually see sporadically; plus, it's one thing seeing them from the stands to seeing them up close on the training pitch. This is the second camp of this type we've done, and I have to say that some players have really caught our eye for their immense quality.
2023? The first game of the new year will see us once again be tested by England, which will be an important game, as well as a prestigious one, because it'll be our opening game for qualification to the next Euros.”

An in-house, triangular competition, on the pitches named Enzo Bearzot at Coverciano, ended this second phase of the camp today, with three games of 35 minutes a half, allowing all 37 players present the chance to compete against each other and show what they can do. Also watching on from the stands these last three days have been the various Azzurrini Head Coaches, alongside Men's Youth Coordinator, Maurizio Viscidi.

The first game played was decided by a great piece of play by Fazzini, who on the break scored with a perfectly-placed strike in at the near post.

In the second game, it was Baschirotto who broke the deadlock with a header from a corner (17'), after Colombo had hit the post just seconds after kick-off. Again from a corner, Casadei doubled the lead for his team after 28 minutes with a spin and shot inside the area. Towards the end of the half, Mancini put away a penalty to end the game 3-0.

The final match ended in a stalemate, 0-0.
