Webinar on the Carta on environmental sustainability in football

Between 11:00 and 12:00 CEST on Tuesday 26 September, the first webinar will take place to dicuss the Carta on Environmental Sustainability in Football. The Carta (letter/paper in Italian), organized by the FIGC in collaboration with the Sant’Anna High School in Pisa and shared with the Associations various bodies, is one of the legacy activities of the ‘Life Tackle’ project for environmental sustainability in football, co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE programme and supported by UEFA.

The webinar is titled “Environmental Management in Football: Principles and Tools”, and is open to all the clubs and organisations that adhere to the Carta on Environmental Sustainability in Football. There will be introduction of the key concepts of environmental management in the sporting sector, as well as a demonstration of a tool that can be used to measure the environmental impact of a football match. The aim of the seminar is also to respond to input from the 98 clubs belonging to Lega Serie A, Lega B, Lega Pro and Lega Nazionale Dilettani, who took part in the first meeting on the Carta, both in person at Coverciano and online, back on 2 March of this year.

The topics for discussion by Professor Tiberio Daddi and Dr Niccolò Todaro from the Sant’Anna High School are:

  1. Measuring environmental impact. Principles and idendification of environmental ‘hotspots’ related to football matches;
  2. Environmental planning. Identifying aims and implementing improvement plans;
  3. Environmental governance. Adapting organisational structures to import environmental improvements;
  4. Introduction to the Environmental Footprint Calculator. A user-friendly tool to calculate the environmental impact of football matches.
