Every year on 27 January, the FIGC commemorates International Holocaust Memorial Day, remembering the victims of the Shoah with a communication campaign on its official site and social media channels, reaffirming the necessity of not just remembering, but also spreading awareness to fight every form of discrimination.
"It's our job to remember, for the present and future - stated the President of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina -. Remembering means that we can give a voice to those who cannot speak, transforming pain into awareness and horror into hope. For this reason, the world of football unites with different initiatives rooted in respect for individuals as the true foundation of peace and coexistence. There is no progress without memory, and no humanity without the courage to remember".
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, a symbol of the Holocaust, the Federation (in collaboration with Lega Pro and Coop Alleanza 3.0) sponsored the event 'In gioco per l'uguaglianza'. The event took place at the 'Paolo Mazza' stadium in Ferrara. The National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS), in partnership with the SPAL Foundation, hosted a special session on Thursday, 23 January, for the students of the A. Roiti High School (Sports Division) and SPAL's Youth Teams. The programme focused on stories of football, the Holocaust, and the fight against racism, followed by a trip to the museum.
The event featured journalist and author Adam Smulevich - author of books such as "President's. The uncomfortable stories of the founders of the football clubs Casale, Napoli and Roma" and "A kick against Racism: 20 lessons against hate" - as well as Paolo Poponessi and Roberto Di Veroli, authors of "A star on the field: Giovanni di Veroli. From Racial Persecution to football in the Serie A" (Persiani, 2023). Also present were MEIS Director Amedeo Spagnoletto, SPAL President Joe Tacopinam and the Regional Coordinator of the FIGC Youth and School Sector, Massimiliano Rizzello, with a video message from Lega Pro President Matteo Marani.
In the next few days, on Sostenabilia, the new multimedia platform created to highlight and gather all initiatives developed under the FIGC's Social and Environmental Sustainability Strategy - will publish a detailed feature on the event in Ferrara.
