This evening, Italy Head Coach, Luciano Spalletti, visited an overnight shelter for the homeless in Buon Pastore, Rome, that was opened in the local church by the Community of Sant’Egido in January 2021. This church, formerly part of a convent that lay abandoned for over 50 years, currently offers 16 people experiencing a housing emergency a comfortable bed, clean linen, a wardrobe and a bedside table to store their personal belongings.
“We will support the Community of Sant’Egido in helping those in need and this will bring us great joy”, affirmed Luciano Spalletti who, this week, was featured in a video message in support of the ‘Add a place at your table for Christmas’ campaign that can be supported by calling or texting 45586 and will provide Christmas lunch to those most in need.
Many volunteers were there to welcome the Head Coach, as well as the president of the Community of Sant’Egido, Marco Impagliazzo, who stated: “Buon Pastore is a haven and a refuge for those suffering from what is defined as 'extreme poverty', that is, not having a roof over your head. But above all else, it provides a precious opportunity to start living life once again, because here you not only have a bed, but also friendship, trust and encouragement, to leave a difficult past behind and start over".
