October is prevention month: the auditorium in Coverciano is lit up in pink and the Komen Italia caravan arrives in Rome
From the evening of Sunday 6 until the end of the month, the Centro Tecnico Federale will be lit up in pinkThursday, October 3, 2024
The auditorium at the Centro Tecnico Federale in Coverciano and Parco del Foro Italico will be lit up in pink, as part of a series of initiatives linked to the Nations League match against Belgium at Stadio Olimpico on Thursday 10 October. October is the month of prevention awareness, and the FIGC is also stepping up its efforts this year to fight breast cancer.
On the evening of Sunday 6 October at Coverciano, a press conference for the National side is scheduled ahead of the matches against Belgium and Israel, and starting from the evening, for the rest of the month the auditorium of the Centro Tecnico Federale will be lit up in pink again, just like last year, in a symbolic gesture which will accompany the Prevention Caravan of Komen Italia (the national programme for the prevention of female health problems), and will light up other main attractions in the country, starting with the Colosseum.
The Caravan of Prevention, which on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 October, will make an appearance in the capital, representing the synergy which FIGC and Komen Italia have had for years. Joint mobile units will be present at Parco del Foro Italico (via del Giavellotto), giving people the chance to undergo medical exams for free, in the name of preventing breast cancer and gynaecological problems, as well as offering nutritional consultations and pharmaceutical services like measuring blood pressure and glycemic levels. With the contribution of the blood donation group ‘Francesco Olgiati OD’ and AVIS from Rome, it will once again be possible to donate blood.
The mentioned services will be available on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 from 10:00 to 17:00 CEST; in the area occupied by FIGC and Komen Italia, the cups won by the national side will be on show, including the World Cup’s from 1982 and 2006 and the European cup from 2021, alongside Oscar and Azzurra, the national team mascots.
NUMBERS - Prevention is a very effective tool when it comes to fighting breast cancer. The best methods of prevention are in fact through sport and a healthy lifestyle, which could lead to the prevention of up to a third of 2.3 million new cases that are registered every year in the world, 56,870 of which are in Italy. With an early diagnosis (the secondary form of prevention) it’s also possible to cure the disease, the survival rate is usually around 90%.
