The FIGC mourns the passing of Cesare Gussoni

The FIGC wishes to extend its condolences to the family of Giorgio Veneri, a former player and coach who passed away today at the age of 84. A midfielder during his playing days, he spent nine seasons at Atalanta, where he won the Coppa Italia in 1962/63 before finishing his career at Como. As a coach, he was in the dugout for over 700 games, taking charge of ten different clubs from 1976 to 1998: Pergocrema, Derthona, Fanfulla, Mantova, Casarano, Spal, Legnano, Fiorenzuola, Prato and Leffe. In 1998, he joined Englishman David Platt at Sampdoria. From 2002 to 2012, he coached the Rappresentativa Under 20 Serie C side, and he also led Italy’s university team to four silver medals in the Summer Universiade (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009).
