The Federal Prosecutor has reached an agreement (ex art. 126 CGS) with footballer Sandro Tonali, who receives an 18-month suspension, eight of which will be commuted to a personal recovery programme, and a fine of €20,000 for violating art.24 of the CGS that prohibits players from placing bets on footballing events organised by FIGC, UEFA and FIFA.
Regarding the alternative prescriptions, Tonali will have to follow a therapy plan of at least eight months and a cycle of at least 16 public meetings. These will be held in Italy, over a period of eight months, at amateur sports associations, territorial federal centres and gambling addiction recovery centres, and in any case, according to the programme proposed by the FIGC.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office will monitor his compliance with the above, and in the event of a violation of this agreement, will take measures within its jurisdiction, according to the CGS. These measures would include termination of the agreement and the continuation of disciplinary proceedings before the judicial body of sporting justice.
