Under-16s lose on penalties to Belgium in the final game of the UEFA Development Tournament
The Azzurrini leveled it up to make it 2-2 before being punished by the lottery of penaltiesTuesday, May 10, 2022
The Azzurrini’s final game of the UEFA Development Tournament in Covilhã ended in defeat as our Under-16s lost on penalties to Belgium. It was a balanced game as Italy twice came from behind to level it up, with goals from Ravaglioli and Riccio, before they were punished by the lottery of penalties. The Azzurrini finish the tournament with one win – in the first game against the USA – and two defeats.
Away from the results, Daniele Zoratto was largely pleased: “It was a tight game and the final score of normal time reflected the overall balance of the match. A draw was probably the right result because the boys did brilliantly to equalise twice and they played really really well. Perhaps the heat affected us physically.” On the final record from the tournament: “I’m pleased. It’s been a great experience for the boys. Playing teams of this level helps us to understand where we’re at and was invaluable for the new guys, who got their first taste of international football.”
