The Under-21 team has been in training since Sunday evening in Tirrenia as preparations continue ahead of three important qualifying matches which will determine progression to Euro 2023. Two Italians have joined the group: Monza defender, Lorenzo Pirola, has already been called up and has had a couple of days rest after winning promotion to Serie A with Monza. Juventus midfielder, Fabio Miretti, also joins the side; he’s been a stalwart in the Under-19 side, who Nicolato called up last minute and will join his team in training this afternoon.
Gianluca Gaetano knows what it means to pull on the Azzurri shirt: “It is certainly an important time for the Under-21 side; we must be focused and train hard. We anticipated this short time off, so have used this to decide on the group and train in the hope that this better prepares us for the challenges that awaits. Now we must focus on the match against Luxembourg and then turn our attention to the other two".
Today the Azzurrini had a double-session and will continue their on-field work until Friday. The lads will train on Saturday morning, and will transfer to Differdange in the afternoon, where they will play Luxembourg on Monday 6 June (20:00 CEST, stadio Municipal de la Ville), while on the 9th the Azzurrini will face Sweden in Helsingborg (18:00 CEST, Olimpia Stadium) and on 14 June, their last match of the group, against Republic of Ireland at the stadio 'Cino e Lillo Del Duca' in Ascoli (17:30 CEST).
