Zoratto: “Worthwhile friendlies, we've found a few lads who will improve the group"Thursday, October 13, 2022
Mattia Mosconi's penalty wasn't enough the Under 16s as they were beaten 2-1 by the Netherlands, in the second friendly of a double header against the Dutch at the Olympic Training Centre in Tirrenia. After their 2-1 win in the first match, played on Tuesday at Coverciano, Italy were turned over this time by the Oranje courtesy of goals at the beginning and end of the game by Jim Koller and Sami Bouhoudane.
The Azzurrini were chasing the game from the off and after nine minutes were a goal down, with Koller doing well to make the most of an error made by Bologna keeper Massimo Pessina. Grabbing the equaliser was Mattia Mosconi, who halfway through the second half won and put away a penalty to momentarily make it 1-1. For the Inter forward, who had scored a penalty in the game on Tuesday as well, it was his fourth of the season for the Under 16s. Italy went close to taking the lead with Mosconi and Mattia Liberali both having chances. But two minutes from the end, PSV Eindhoven striker Sami Bouhoudane, who had also scored in Tuesday's game, found the goal to give the Netherlands victory.
“Today, we lost" – said Head Coach Daniele Zoratto - "but we weren't second best and the game was decided by a set-piece. The two friendlies have been very useful against a really top side, and it has given us the chance to find a few new lads who will help the squad become stronger for the future."
