The countdown to the Euros begins: 29 Azzurre called up for first training camp

With Euro 2022 less than two months away, Milena Bertolini has announced the 29 Azzurre players who will be involved in the team’s first training camp from Monday 30 May to Friday 3 June at the Suning Training Centre in Appiano Gentile.

During the first week of preparations for this summer’s tournament, which, for Italy, will begin with a showdown against France at the New York Stadium in Rotherham on 10 July, there will be no Juventus or Roma players. This is to give them a few days of rest to recover from the Coppa Italia Socios.com final scheduled for 22 May.

The Head Coach has decided to take a closer look at many younger players who have been doing well recently. Eight have received their first call-ups: Severini, Robustellini, Ferrara, Arcangeli and Beccari all helped Enrico Sbardella’s Under-19 side qualify for the Euro Under-19 finals, while Cafferata, Catena and Monnecchi are part of the Under-23 setup.

Guagni and Giacinti, both of whom missed the team’s two most recent World Cup qualifying matches due to injury, have been included. The same applies to Tortelli, Mascarello, Bellucci, Pandini, Marinelli and Polli, all of whom are back after a stint away from the National Team.

The squad for the second week of training, which will also take place in Appiano Gentile, will be announced on Friday 3 June.
