After the important contribution by the Men's National First Team against North Macedonia last November in Rome for the 'Un Gol per la Ricerca' campaign (One Goal for Research), the FIGC (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio) is relaunching its efforts alongside Fondazione AIRC also for the 'Arance della Salute' day (Health Oranges), that will be distributed across Italy on Saturday 27 January. In fact, young talents from the Under 20s will feature in the initiative to inform and raise awareness among young people and fans on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle in order to keep in shape and reduce the risk of cancer.
Under 20 head coach, Alberto Bollini, invited his players to take part in a special training session where footballing abilities and knowledge of prevention principles were mixed together: a real challenge that has involved Giacomo Faticanti, Alessandro Fontanarosa, Luis Hasa, Filippo Missori, Niccolò Pisilli and Filippo Terracciano. The lads faced each other from the penalty spot to show their preparation on healthy eating, behaviours to avoid and the role of physical exercise.
“The Fondazione AIRC researchers have shown with their studies how important it is to adopt a healthy lifestyle to stay in shape and reduce the risk of illness," explained Alberto Bollini. "With the lads, we wanted to give our contribution by making videos in a videogame style to send out this message to youngsters, above all. It is vital that every signle one of us is aware of the benefits to a healthy lifestyle: not smoking, doing physical exercise and choosing a balanced diet are all things we should adopt to prevent problems like champions”.
Data on the Italian population has shown that approximately one third of adults have risk factors for the development of cancer. Approximately 33% of people are overweight and 10% obese, 31% are sedentary and 24% smoke. The most worrying numbers concern school-age children: approximately 39% are overweight and, of these, 17% are obese. For this reason, the AIRC and FIGC, for the Arance delle Salute day (Health Oranges) on Saturday 27 January, will renew their historic collaboration developed with 'Un Gol per la Ricerca'. Together, they will promote an invitation for people to act themselves by adopting healthier habits and going to the streets to look for volunteers to support the work of some six thousand researchers committed to developing new tools to prevent, diagnose and treat all tumors earlier and better.
