The Azzurrini open the new season with a convincing win over England

The U16 National Team began the season with a convincing victory (2-1) in the first of two friendlies against England. At the Stadio Silvio Piola in Vercelli, the Azzurrini defeated their English counterparts in an action-packed and well-played game. In the lead after 21 minutes of the first half with a goal from Mosconi, Italy doubled their advantage after the interval through Liberali. The two teams will face off in the second game in Vercelli next Thursday, at 11:00 CEST (free entrance for all fans).

Zoratto used a 4-3-3 formation with Liberali in a deeper role to the other two up front, starting the following: Vannucchi; Colombo, Verde, Garofalo, Cocchi; Olivieri, Gariani, Di Nunzio; Liberali; Mosconi, Maiorana. The Azzurrini immediately took control of the game and, in the fourth minute, got sight of Lukjanciks’ goal through Maiorana, who took aim from a central position 25 yards out with a left-footed shot on target, but his attempt was saved by the English goalkeeper.

Italy were dominating possession, but England weren't allowing any space for their opponents. After 21 minutes, however, Zoratto’s team found a way through and took the lead. Mosconi beat the offside trap and won the one-on-one battle with Lukjanciks.

In the 38th minute, the Azzurrini looked dangerous again with Mosconi, whose effort was neutralised by Esenga’s slide tackle. Immediately afterwards, Lukjanciks denied Liberali following an Italy free-kick.

After half-time, Italy doubled the lead in the 54th minute through Liberali, who, assisted by Maiorana, converted into the top corner with his left foot. The Azzurrini continued to attack and missed a couple of chances before England pulled one back in the 77th minute: Moore capitalised on a defensive mishap, scoring with his left foot into an empty net.
