The Under 18 national team put on another excellent performance who, again at the stadio Gianpiero Combi in Merano, beat Austria 2-0 after defeating them 2-1 three days ago. After having almost taken the lead in the first half through AC Milan player Filippo Scotti, following a cross in from the left by Inter's Matteo Cocchi, born in 2007, the Azzurrini found the opening goal in the second half thanks to Maat Daniel Caprini (Fiorentina) who, in the 54th minute, followed up his previous shot at goal, which was blocked on the line by an Austrian defender, firing home. The Italians' lead was doubled about a quarter of an hour later (68') through Seydou Fini (Standard Liège), who took advantage of an poor back pass by Jakob Brunnhofer to beat opposition goalkeeper Salko Hamzić with a precise lob. The last action of the game, at the death, came from Atalanta's Leonardo Mendicino, whose low shot from outside the area smacked off the face of the post, denying Italy a third goal.
"It was a good performance," underlined Daniele Franceschini. "We dominated from start to finish and in every aspect of play, from ball possession to creating goalscoring opportunities, risking very little". The game, a repeat of the one played on Thursday, ended a cycle of two friendlies which saw the Azzurrini win on both occasions in Merano, who hosted an Italian national team fixture for the first-time ever: "I would say that it's been good for us," he added. "We have been welcomed extremely well by everyone and we've had some great facilities available, so we can only say thank you. Seeing so many people close to the national team fills us with immense pride: we really had a great time."
