In Brussels, the entire National Team will pay tribute to the victims of the Heysel Stadium disaster tomorrow. The day before the Nations League match against Belgium at the renamed King Baudouin Stadium, FIGC President Gabriele Gravina, Delegation Head Gianluigi Buffon and Head Coach Luciano Spalletti – together with staff members and the Azzurri squad – will lay three bouquets of flowers (one red, one white and one green) in front of the plaque where Sector Z was located. Here, 39 people lost their lives on 29 May 1985 before the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus.
A moment of remembrance that will also see the participation of the leaders of the Belgian Football Association, state authorities, local institutions and the Italian Ambassador to Brussels, Federica Favi.
On 13 November 2015, when the Azzurri last met Belgium in a friendly in Brussels, the FIGC and Belgian FA joined Juventus and the Association of the Families of the Heysel Victims in commemorating the 30th anniversary of the tragedy by laying down flowers and an Italy shirt with the number 39 on its back.
