The Azzurri 'in class' for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, De Carli: "These meetings are fundamental"

As part of the UEFA's health education program, some members of the Italian Resuscitation Council taught the necessary procedures at Coverciano. Costabile said, "Awareness also stems from the tragic incident that happened to Eriksen at Euro 2020".

The Azzurri 'in class' for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, De Carli:

This morning, the Azzurri and the National Team's medical staff met with some members of the IRC, the Italian Resuscitation Council, which is part of the European Resuscitation Council, at Coverciano for a theoretical and practical lesson on cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

“These meetings,” emphasised National Team doctors Angelo De Carli and Carmine Costabile, “are ones we consider fundamental because, despite having already done many courses, there is always more to learn, and they also allow us to practice the practical aspect. These are situations where it is important to have a certain level of leadership in coordinating the intervention, as well as the knowledge of what needs to be done. Holding these meetings frequently allows all of us, not just doctors but also physiotherapists, players, and other staff members, to be aware of the manoeuvres needed to save the life of someone who might experience such incidents

Awareness of cardiopulmonary resuscitation by UEFA also stems from the dramatic episode involving Danish footballer Eriksen. Hoping, of course, that such incidents never occur, what happened in that context is a model to follow, because, besides specialised personnel, all participants collaborated at the scene, including teammates first and foremost.

These meetings arise from the health education program outlined by UEFA. Particularly because of what happened, knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers is considered as important as anti-doping prevention meetings or concussion management, head traumas.
