After securing their spot at the Euro finals (in Switzerland next July) just over two months ago, the Azzurre will soon return to action for their first two tests in the build-up to the continental tournament. On Friday 25 October, Italy Women will take on Malta at the Tre Fontane in Rome (18:15 CEST kick-off), after which reigning world champions Spain will visit the Romeo Menti in Vicenza on Tuesday 29 October (another 18:15 CEST kick-off). The Azzurre already played the Spaniards between October and December last year in the Nations League, with Andrea Soncin’s side producing an extraordinary performance to emerge victorious in Pontevedra.
Italy are set to face the Maltese for the third time after beating them twice in both previous encounters in 2019. The upcoming clash will be the tenth match the Azzurre have played in Rome and their second-ever fixture at the Tre Fontane, where they ran out 2-1 winners over Colombia in April 2023.
After their friendly against the team ranked 87th in the world, Italy will take on Spain, a superpower in the women’s game. In Vicenza, there will be a repeat of the match that took place ten years ago and finished goalless in front of 5500 spectators. It’ll be Italy’s 20th match against the Spaniards (twelve wins, four draws and three defeats), who won the first edition of the Nations League and currently sit third behind the United States and England in the FIFA Ranking.
After these two fixtures, the National Team will return to action at the start of December for their final friendly of the year, which, for the Azzurre, will formally come to an end on the 16 December. That day, the group stage draw for the European Championship will be held in Nyon.
