The Azzurre’s World Cup qualifying campaign to resume in April: matches against Lithuania in Parma and Switzerland in Thun on the horizon

Italy Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign will resume in April with two matches. The Stadio Ennio Tardini will host the first fixture against Lithuania on Friday 8 April (19:00 CET kick-off), after which the Azzurre will face Switzerland in Thun four days later (at 17:45 CET). It’ll be a big six-pointer against the Swiss, with Milena Bertolini’s side hoping to ultimately secure direct qualification to the tournament that will be held in Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2023.

Italy Women are set to play their first-ever match in Parma. The only time they’ve faced Lithuania was in the reverse fixture of the current qualifying campaign: on 26 October 2021, the Azzurre ran out 5-0 winners in Vilnius thanks to goals from Cernoia, Pirone, Giacinti, Gama and Caruso.

The team’s last meeting with Switzerland, who they’ve played 28 times in total (winning 21, drawing twice and losing five times), was on 26 November last year, with the Swiss winning 2-1 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo. It means they currently sit three points ahead of the Azzurre in Group G.
