The Azzurre put in a dominant performance to beat Moldova 13-1 in their opening Women Futsal Week game
Italy cruise to victory against their first opponents of the tournament in Varazdin, CroatiaThursday, June 27, 2019
Italy had no problems on matchday one of the Women Futsal Week Summer Cup as they swept aside Moldova. The Azzurre took the lead in the fourth minute through Federca Belli, who made no mistake at the far post following a lovely move involving Pomposelli, Greieco and Coppari. D’Incecco and her teammates were well on top and Mascia was rarely troubled – if at all. Despite this, Salvatore called time-out. Italy then doubled their lead immediately after the pause in play as Renatinha scored a debut goal. The Azzurre then made it 3-0 in the 14th minute through Mansueto, who did well to finish off Pomposelli’s assist. And things only got better three minutes later as Boutimah found the back of the net on her first competitive start after being found by an inspired Xhaxho.
It was much the same story in the second half, with Grieco making it 5-0 after just 90 seconds following Borges’s through ball. Two minutes later, Coppari beat Druta to increase the Azzurre’s lead still further. The result was never in question and Italy added further goals to their tally through Pomposelli, Boutimah, Renata (x3 – her back-heeled finish was particularly good), Coppari and Belli. Moldova did pull one back through captain Musteata when the Azzurre were 7-0 up, with the match ending 13-1. Tomorrow at 16:00 CEST, Italy will face Poland, who beat hosts Croatia 5-4 in their opener.
