ITALY v IRELAND. Speaking of numbers, there have been seven matches with the Irish, between 2005 and 2019: Italy remains undefeated (6 victories and 1 draw), with a goal difference of 16/5. The only draw came in the 2016 Cyprus Cup (1-1). The most significant victories were both 4-1: the first in 2007 in Silves, Portugal (Algarve Cup), in a match that became historic for Sara Gama's first national goal, in the 64th minute, in her 5th match wearing the Azzurre shirt, a number that reached 134 after 16 years. The goals, on the other hand, became Another 4-1 the following year, in February 2008 in Villacidro, in a qualification match for Euro Finland 2009. The star of the match was Patrizia Panico (5 goals), followed by Silvia Fuselli (3).
ITALY v ENGLAND. From Florence, the Azzurre will travel to Algeciras, Spain, where just a few months ago they tasted the flavor of victory against the reigning World Champions (2-3 in November), but the opponent changes: facing England, the most successful national team in the past 2 years: they won the 2022 European Championship by defeating Germany in the final at Wembley; the 2023 UEFA/Conmbeol Final by beating Brazil, winners of the Women's Copa America (4-2 on penalties); they finished 2nd in the 2023 World Cup, losing the final to Spain (1-0); they also won the 2022 and 2023 Arnold Clark Cups, a tournament at the beginning of the year featuring some of the strongest European teams and beyond. Italy and England have faced each other 25 times since the summer of 1984 (the entry of the Women's National Team into the FIGC). The record is 11 Italian victories, 6 draws, and 8 English successes, with 43/37 goals. Italy hasn't beaten England since March 2012, in Paralimni where it ended 3-1 in the Cyprus Cup, with goals from Pamela Conti, Melania Gabbiadini, and Patrizia Panico. Since that match, there have been 2 losses and 1 draw.
