Luciano Spalletti’s record in 2023 as the Head Coach of the National Team ended with 3 victories (all at home), 2 draws and 1 defeat in the 6 matches played for a total of 11 points (1.83 average) and a goal difference of +6, thanks to the 13 goals scored (2.16 per game) and 7 conceded (1.16 per game). In the 540 minutes played, Spalletti’s National Team were ahead for 269’ (49.8%), level for 238’ (44.07%) and behind for 33’ (6.11%).

17 of the 26 Champions of the 2021 European Championships were called up: Sirigu, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson, Florenzi, Castrovilli, Verratti, Bernadeschi and Insigne were not called up. Inter and Roma were the greatest sources of players to Spalletti (6). The 44 total players called up came from 12 Italian clubs( Inter and Roma 6, Juventus and Lazio 5, Napoli 4, Atalanta 3, Fiorentina and Monza 2, Bologna, Genoa, Sassuolo and Torino 1) and from 7 foreign clubs, 5 English (Tottenham 2, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle 1) and 1 from Ligue 1 (PSG 1).

In the three home victories, there were braces in each one: Frattesi against Ukraine, Berardi against Malta and Chiesa against North Macedonia. Bonaventura and Scamacca scored their first goals for the Azzurri.
Udogie was the only debutant (against Malta), 9 yellow cards were received (Zaniolo 2, Acerbi, Bastoni, Buongiorno, Di Lorenzo, Dimarco, Scalvini, Tonali 1).
