As we edge ever closer to the Under-21 European Championship, Luigi Di Biagio has called up two new players for the Azzurrini’s upcoming training camp in Rome. Following Simone Edera’s withdrawal, Pescara’s Riccardo Sottil and Ferdinando Del Sole have both been called up as replacements. Davide Calabria and Gabriele Moncini will join the group on June 3rd. In agreement with the club, the defender will continue his recovery at Milan, while the Cittadella attacker will join the squad after the Serie B play-off final.

The team will meet on Wednesday 29 May (12:30 CEST). training at Formello until Saturday 8 June. Meanwhile, on Thursday 6 June, the Azzurrini tactician will confirm his 23-man squad for the competition. This final group will then meet up once again on Monday 10 June in Bologna, which is where the team will be based throughout the European Championship. Their preparations will continue at Bologna FC’s Niccolò Galli training centre at Casteldebole.

Located in Group A, Italy will make their debut against Spain in Sunday 16 June at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna. They’ll then face Poland (Wednesday 19 June, 21:00 CEST in Bologna) before finally taking on Belgium (Saturday 22 June, 21:00 CEST in Reggio Emilia).

Italy will be hosting the competition for the first time in their history this summer, which will see 12 teams taking part and which will determine who’ll qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Previously, the Azzurrini have won five of the seven finals that they’ve taken part in.
