Saturday 19 November, friendly against Germany: another test for Nicolato’s Azzurrini
After the September friendlies against England and Japan and after having discovered their Euro opponents, Italy will return to the pitch at the Stadio Del Conero in the lead-up to the tournament in Romania and GeorgiaWednesday, October 19, 2022
After the two tests against England and Japan, another prestigious friendly awaits the U21s in the run-up to the European Championship in Romania and Georgia. The Azzurrini, who discovered who they'll face next summer (Group D: Italy, Norway, Switzerland and France) during the draw in Bucharest, will play Germany at the Stadio Del Conero in Ancona on Saturday 19 November (17:30 CET).
There have been nine previous meetings between Italy and Germany at U21 level. The Azzurrini have won twice (the last time during the 2017 European Under-21 Championship, 1-0 thanks to a goal from Federico Bernardeschi), drawn three and lost on four occasions so far. To these, we can add three matches between Italy and East Germany, with two victories for the Italian Under-21 National Team and one draw. The teams last faced each other on 19 November four years ago, a friendly in Reggio Emilia, with the Germans running out 2-1 winners after Vittorio Parighi had opened the scoring.
The Under-21s will be back in Ancona 14 years on from the last match there, on 11 October 2008: on that occasion, Pierluigi Casiraghi's side drew 0-0 against Israel in a European Championship play-off match.
