Regione Lazio turning more and more Blue Azzurro
As part of the partnership signed with the FIGC, four events were officially announced at a press conference at Casa Azzurri in Germany. Councilor Palazzo: "We will involve the associations and schools on issues related to the values of sport that this shirt represents"Saturday, June 22, 2024
Regione Lazio is increasingly turning more Azzurro: in fact, in the coming months, several matches of the Italian national football teams will be hosted in the region as part of the partnership signed with the FIGC.
“Thanks to the agreement made between us and the FIGC, not only are we promoting the image of Lazio, as we are already doing for the European Football Championships, the only Italian region present at Casa Azzurri, but we are taking the Azzurri shirt back to our provinces," commented the Regional Councilor for the Environment, Energy Transition, Climate Change, Sustainability, Tourism and Sport, Elena Palazzo, during a press conference at Casa Azzurri in Germany. "In fact, we are proud to announce that we will welcome the Under 21 and Under 20 national teams to Latina and Rieti. In conjunction with hosting these games, we will involve associations and schools on issues related to the values of sport that the Azzurri shirt represents. The national youth matches will also be an opportunity to verify the standards of international competitions so as to evaluate the priorities of interventions to be planned on the sports facilities of the Region, based on the resources available".
"The national team confirms itself as an incredible exporter of Made in Italy, capable of transmitting the values of our country," added the Deputy General Secretary and head of the FIGC Revenue Area, Giovanni Valentini. "This time, we're doing it with a splendid region like Lazio, both with the National Teams and with the Youth Finals. Thus, our path of promotion continues in Italy and abroad."
It all kicks off in September with the Under 21s, who will have their training camp in Latina from 1 September, before facing San Marino four days later (Thursday 5, live on Rai 2) at the Stadio Domenico Francioni in a European Championship 2025 qualifier. On 10 October, the Under 20s will be in action in Rieti, at the Stadio Centro d'Italia (time and TV schedule to be defined) for their Elite League 2024/25 match against England
On the same day, the Azzurri, currently involved in UEFA EURO 2024, will also return to play in Lazio, at the Stadio Olympico in Rome, against Belgium (Thursday 10 October, 20:45 CEST, live on Rai 1), thei first home match of the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League group, following two away games in September in Paris (against France) and Budapest (against Israel). Finally, the date and venue of a match for the Women's National Team are still to be confirmed: the Azzurre's calendar for next season, in fact, will only be defined after their two European Qualifiers matches in July.
Furthermore, at Casa Azzurri in Germany, Councilor Palazzo confirmed that Lazio will host the Youth Finals, from Under 18 to Under 15, in the summer of 2025, receiving the baton from Regione Marche, where, for the third year in a row, they are concluding the 2023/24 finals. After the regular season, which will take place between September and May, Lazio will hold the Scudetto finals (and in some cases for the semi-finals) of the competitions organised by the FIGC's Youth and School Sector: Under 18 Professionals, Under 17, 16 and 15 Serie A-B and Under 17, 16 and 15 Serie C, Under 17 and 15 Amateur, Under 17 and 15 Female, Under 17 and 15 Futsal.
“We are now deciding on the most suitable competition venues to give the finalists and the host venues the best possible chance to perform. We expect an important return from a tourist point of view from these events. In fact, over 1000 people are expected, including staff, players from the team finalists, their respective families and FIGC staff, for a total of at least 3,000 overnight stays in the period. Furthermore, also in this case, initiatives will be developed that will involve young people, through associations and schools, to promote events, meetings and make the most of all the potential of sports tourism", concluded Councilor Palazzo.
