As part of the collaboration agreements with Regione Lazio and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the FIGC has decided to host four home matches in the two regions between September and October, which will see the Men's National Team and the Under 21s in action: at the Stadio Domenico Francioni in Latina, Carmine Nunziata's Under 21s will take on San Marino in a 2025 European Championship qualifier on Thursday 5 September, while the Stadio Olympico in Rome will play host to the Nations League match between the senior team and Belgium on Thursday 10 October
The ball will then be passed on to Friuli-Venezia Giulia: on Monday 14 October at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, the senior national team will face Israel in the Nations League and the following day another European qualifier between the Under 21s and the Republic of Ireland will take place at the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste.
MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM. Roma and Udine will therefore host the first two home matches of the senior national team in the UEFA Nations League 2024/2025. Italy vs. Belgium will be played at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday 10 October, while on Monday 14 October the Azzurri will be in action against Israel at the Stadio Friuli. Both matches are scheduled for 20:45 CEST. Italy's journey in the Nations League will begin with two away fixtures: against France on Friday 6 September at the Parc des Princes in Paris and on Tuesday 10 September at the Bozsik Arena in Budapest against Israel. After the two matches in October, the national team will then visit Belgium on Thursday 14 November and then end the group on Sunday 17 when France visit.
PREVIOUS TIMES IN ROME AND UDINE FOR THE SENIOR TEAM. Rome has hosted the highest number of matches for the Men's senior team (64, with 39 wins, 18 draws and seven defeats), the last of which was on 17 November 2023 against North Macedonia, which ended 5-2 for the Azzurri, who thanks to that win took an important step towards qualifying for EURO 2024. Nine matches have been played in Udine, where Italy are undefeated having collected seven wins and two draws. The last time there dates back to 23 March 2019 and a 2-0 success over Finland in a EURO 2020 qualifier
UNDER 21. Top in Group A, two points ahead of the Republic of Ireland and three over Norway, but having played one more match, the National Under 21 team will resume its journey in qualifying for the European Championship on Thursday 5 September at Latina's Stadio Domenico Francioni against San Marino, before then travelling to Norway to face them on Tuesday 10 September. The Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste will host the last group fixture, which sees the Azzurrini up against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 15 October.
PREVIOUS HISTORY IN LATINA AND TRIESTE FOR THE UNDER 21S. The only previous time in Latina for the Under 21s dates back to 20 January 1993, when a late goal by Christian Panucci gave Italy, coached by Cesare Maldini, a 1-0 success in a friendly against Romania. The Azzurrini have played five matches in Trieste (three at the Nereo Rocco and two at the Giuseppe Grezar), where they are undefeated having collected three wins and two draws. The 5-2 win in the friendly against the Netherlands in May 1971 was followed by victory (2-1) against Czechoslovakia in April 1983, before draws in the friendlies with Sweden and Austria in February 2009 and March 2019, repsectively. The last time out at the Nereo Rocco was back on 29 March 2022, when Italy beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 thanks to a goal scored by Nicolò Rovella in a European Championship qualifier.
