After Friday's victory against Austria, the Under 18 national team followed this up, winning their second friendly, played in Novarello. Daniele Franceschini's Azzurrini beat Switzerland 5-1, in a match in which the coach rotated the team that played three days prior.
Italy took the lead 21 minutes into the game. D'Alessio's cross from the right put it on a plate for Bologna striker Raimondo, who finished perfectly. The goalkeeper, Spycher, was left helpless. Italy were forced into substituting the injured Vignato in the 31st minute to be replaced by D'Andrea. The Azzurrini doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. Patané (Verona) was set up by a back-heel from Pagano, with a powerful enough effort to put it past the Swiss goalkeeper. In the second half, Switzerland were forced into three changes. The Swiss then got their goal in the 54th minute, scored by Servette’s Dias Patricio to make it 2-1. At 58 minutes, Franceschini made a triple change, bringing on Hasa, Kumi and Mancini. Six minutes later (64') Italy re-established their two-goal advantage with D'Andrea (Sassuolo). The fourth goal arrived in the 77th minute with a free-kick from Mancini (Vicenza). To complete the five-star performance, a headed finish from Palella (Genoa).
"We are happy to have followed up our positive performance against Austria”, commented Franceschini, “capitalising on the aspects we did well and improving what didn’t go as well. I saw good movement with the ball, a solid first phase of attack, and a result to match the performance. We opted for a much-changed team compared to the first game, but we saw the same identity and unity in both performances: the group is growing, while results and performances remain constant. This brings an end to a positive international spell, in every possible way."
