Italy will face Germany in Milan on 20 March

One hundred and twenty-three days after the match against France, Italy will return to play in Milan. The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza - which on November 17 last year was sold out (68,000 spectators, a record for an Italy match) - will host Italy vs Germany, the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Nations League on Thursday, March 20 at 20:45 CET.

HOME MATCHES IN MILAN. There have been four previous meetings with Germany in Milan, all in friendly matches. Two wins for Italy, 3-1 in the first match at Campo Milan in January 1923 and 3-2 in May 1940 at San Siro, and two draws (1-1 and 0-0) in the friendlies played - both on 15 November - in 2013 and 2016. On 15 May 1910, Italy played the first match in its history at the Arena Civica, beating France 6-2. Milan also baptised the birth of the Azzurri legend, as on 6 January 1911 against Hungary, Italy wore the Azzurri shirt for the first time. The second city after Rome to have hosted the largest number of matches for Italy (62: 39 wins, 19 draws and 4 defeats), as well as being the seat of the Italian Football Federation between 1905 and 1911, Milan has seen Italy in action in four different venues: the Arena Civica, the Velodromo Sempione (demolished in 1928), the Campo Milan in Viale Lombardia and the San Siro Stadium, named after Giuseppe Meazza since 3 March 1980.

In the capital of Lombardy, the Azzurri had maintained an unbeaten run of almost a century, 96 years to be exact: from the 1-2 defeat in January 1925 against Hungary (at the Milan Stadium) to the 1-2 loss in October 2021 against Spain at the Meazza. Italy's biggest victory in Milan is Italy 9-4 France on 18 January 1920, while Austria is the most faced opponent (6 times), followed by Sweden, Switzerland, Hungary and Portugal (5).
