Italy v Bosnia on Saturday, June 8th in Empoli: the 'Castellani' stadium hosts the Azzurri's final test before the European Championship in Germany

The last friendly match for the National Team before departing for Germany, the venue for the final stage of EURO 2024, will take place on Saturday, 8 June, at the 'Carlo Castellani' stadium in Empoli, one week before the debut against Albania scheduled in Dortmund. Italy, who will play against Turkey in Bologna four days prior, will face Bosnia and Herzegovina. For Coach Luciano Spalletti, it will be like returning home, having ended his playing career with the Tuscan club in 1993 and having started his coaching career with Empoli as well: first with the youth teams and then with the first team, leading them from Serie C1 to Serie A (season 1997-98).

It will be the second time for the National Team in Empoli: the only previous occasion dates back to May 2017 when an experimental Italy team defeated San Marino 8-0 with a hat-trick from Lapadula (who later chose to play for the Peruvian national team) and goals from Petagna, Caldara, Politano, and Ferrari (plus an own goal). The 'Castellani' stadium subsequently hosted two matches of the Women's National Team (Italy-Chile 2-1 in January 2019, a friendly victory with goals from Mauro and Tarenzi, and Italy-Denmark 1-3 in October 2020, a European Championship qualifying match, with Giacinti scoring for the Azzurre) and one for the Under 21 National Team (Italy-Luxembourg 3-0 in September 2021, also a European Championship qualifying match, with goals from Pirola and Cancellieri, plus an own goal).

There have been five previous encounters against Bosnia and Herzegovina: the record stands at three wins for Italy (the last one in November 2020 in the Nations League, a 2-0 victory with goals from Belotti and Berardi, securing qualification for the Finals), one draw, and one defeat.
