Italy U21s to kick off UEFA EURO 2027 qualifying campaign in La Spezia

Italy’s Under-21 side will kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2027 UEFA European Championship, set to take place in Albania and Serbia, in La Spezia. The Azzurrini will play their Group E opener on Friday 5 September at the Stadio Alberto Picco against Montenegro, before heading away to play North Macedonia on Tuesday 9 September (venue to be confirmed).

This marks the fourth time the Azzurrini will play in the Ligurian city, returning just ten months after their 2-2 friendly draw with Ukraine, where Fabbian and Pio Esposito found the net. In their two previous games in La Spezia, the Azzurrini recorded two wins: the first, a 2-1 friendly victory against France in 2007, and again in September 2016 with a 3-0 victory against Andorra during EURO qualifying. Italy remain unbeaten against Montenegro, with two wins (4-0 in June 2014 and 1-0 in September 2021) and one draw (1-1 in March 2022).
