Fresh from the draws with Bulgaria and Switzerland and the win over Lithuania in the three recent qualifying games for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Italy remain in 5th place in the FIFA Rankings, still led by Belgium just ahead of Brazil. The novelty is England’s third-place ranking, as they overtake France and return to the podium positions for the first time in nine years.
Thanks to three wins in as many games, Denmark enters the Top 10, where Portugal (7th, +1) and Spain (8th, -1) swap positions. Noteworthy leaps forward include those of Iran (22nd, +4), Russia (37th, +4), Scotland (45th, +4) and Northern Ireland (47th, +4), as well as the best ranking ever achieved by Kosovo, who have risen to 109th place in the rankings thanks to their victory over Georgia and their draw with Greece. The next FIFA Ranking will be released on 21 October.
