The Under-20 National Team recorded a resounding success today, beating Romania 7-0 in Sassuolo after completely dominating proceedings. Head Coach Bollini had asked his side to be more clinical in the final third, and that is exactly what the Azzurrini were. Italy were aggressive right from the get-go, playing high up the pitch and not allowing the Romanians any space. Captain Edoardo Bove was in inspired form in particular, both in the Azzurrini’s build-up play and when he had the opportunity to score: his double started and finished off the scoring. There were two other braces, with these coming from strikers Gaetano Oristanio and Davide Vergani. The other goalscorer was Tommaso Milanese, who found the net at the beginning of the second half.
The opening period finished with Italy five to the good. The second half was thus a mere formality and saw the Head Coach almost completely rotate the squad. “I’d asked for us to be more efficient and aggressive in our play,” said Bollini at the end of the match. “My thanks go to the lads, who responded in the best possible fashion. Today, they gave very little away and played at a really impressive tempo.”
