Italy register brilliant comeback win over Poland

It was a wild game, Italy were untameable. Behind by two goals with 11 minutes to go, the U20s put in a huge shift to come back and win 3-2 for their second victory in the Elite League (following the opener against Czechia). Alesso Vacca’s (Juventus) brace and the goal from Aaron Ciammaglichella (Torino) secured us the three points, as well as confidence ahead of the World Cup next year in Chile. Bernardo Corradi: “We faced a better side in terms of personnel and physical strength. However, we did brilliantly to stay in the game, to exploit their drop and show all of our skills and especially our immense character, going to get the result”.

In the 41st minute, it was former Romer forward, Jordan Majchryak, who broke the deadlock before Poland managed to double the lead in the 67th minute thanks to a Krajewski volley. But it was then that Italy started to get into the game, looking to come back: in the 79th minute, Vacca’s freekick beat the Polish keeper who also failed to deal with Ciammaglichella in the 90th minute.

Poland tried to bag the winner but another breakaway was decisive for Italy, Vacca bagged again on a Pietro Candelari assist to make it 3-2. But the emotional rollercoaster wasn’t done yet as the hosts had a penalty in the 96th minute: Lorenzo Torriani did brilliantly to stop the shot from Jan Zuberek (Lecco forward on loan from Inter), keeping Poland out and securing the three points for Italy. We play again on Tuesday 19 November at Viola Park (14:00 CET, live on RaiSport) against  Romania. Free tickets are available.
