Thanks to their excellent performance in the Algarve Cup, Italy Women have gained a place in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking, moving ahead of Denmark, who they beat in the opening match of the tournament in mid-February. The Azzurre now sit in 14th place, with the United States continuing to the lead the way.
Behind the Americans, who have been the top-ranked team since 2017, are Sweden, while France, who will be Italy’s first EURO 2022 opponents on 10 July, have climbed to third, ahead of Germany. Spain are in seventh – their best-ever position – and Brazil have slipped down to ninth, behind England and ahead of North Korea. The next FIFA Ranking will be published on 17 July.
