Italy loses against Switzerland away, Corradi: "I saw determination and a good game"
Malik's goal shortly after half-time proved decisive. The Azzurrini reacted and had many attempts, but didn’t manage to get a drawFriday, August 13, 2021
After the fantastic victory at Lecco two days ago (3-0), today, at Losone, the National Under-17 team was defeated (1-0). The winning Swiss goal came from forward Deme Malik in the 53rd minute, after capitalising on a mistake made in the midfield by the Azzurrini.
The first half well for the U18s, and they had the most ball possession, though without the ball they lacked concentration and the necessary clarity of mind. Coach Bernardo Corradi said that "tiredness played a decisive role, but the boys must learn that in this sport fatigue is a great travel buddy. Though I’m very satisfied because, despite this, they continued to play without ever giving up. On the other hand, we are behind with our preparations, considering that the Swiss will start their league next week".
In the second half, the Azzurrini continue to play with the ball; Switzerland started with long throws that put the Azzurri's defense in trouble and then, the mistake. Though it didn’t affect the team's play, which continued to be proactive and dangerous with many efforts that didn’t see the back of the net. The Azzurrini Coach concluded: "I changed all the players to continue to give the best shape to this team. At the end of the day, this is the most important thing; we have an important game at the end of October with the European qualifiers and we can’t make mistakes".
The first phase of the European qualifiers will begin in Northern Ireland on 27 October. Italy's opponents will be the hosts, Scotland and Albania.
