Italy finish second in 4 Nations Tournament following defeat to Germany

Following their 3-0 win against Israel and goalless draw against Belgium, the Under-17 National Team suffered their first defeat of the 4 Nations Tournament, with Germany running out 2-1 winners against the Azzurrini. The Germans thus finished on maximum points and won the tournament ahead of Italy, who initially took the lead through a 21st-minute goal from Werder Bremen defender Fabio Chiarodia. Mainz striker Nelson Weiper then equalised on the half-hour mark for the hosts.

After the restart, the Azzurrini dominated for long periods and came close to regaining their lead through De Angelis and Carboni, but they were caught on the counter four minutes from time, when Pejcinovic bagged the winning goal. There were, however, many positives for Head Coach Bernardo Corradi, who was unavailable for the encounter and replaced by Assistant Coach Massimiliano Favo, ahead of the first phase of Euro qualifying, which will see the Under-17s face Northern Ireland, Scotland and Albania in Northern Ireland from 27 October.
