Italy defeated in second friendly of double-header against Switzerland. Corradi: “An experience that will allow the lads to grow”
After their 4-1 win on Tuesday, the Azzurrini were beaten 3-1 in LosoneThursday, September 26, 2019
Today, the Under-16 National Team weren’t able to repeat what they did in the first friendly of their double-header against Switzerland, when they ran out 4-1 winners. Instead, Bernardo Corradi’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat at the Stadio Comunale in Ascona (Losone) this morning as the Swiss bounced back.
The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute through midfielder Chipperfield, who struck from over 35 yards out. With 73 minutes on the clock, Schroder doubled Switzerland’s lead after a quick break from the home side. Two minutes later, Italy reduced the arrears through defender Marius Catena, who netted from close range after the ball had bounced around in the box. However, with the Azzurrini pushing forward in their attempt to find an equaliser, the Swiss sealed the win on the counter with six minutes remaining.
“This was an important experience,” said Corradi following the match. “It will teach the lads how to manage to games in quick succession. During this second game, which took place two days on from the first, fatigue played a vital role. However, despite this, the guys did well in terms of trying to be assertive in their play, starting from our own box. After their defeat in the first fixture, our opponents looked to contain us and were able to make the most out of counter-attack situations. Regardless of this, I’m satisfied because these international friendlies help you to grow and gain the necessary experience to develop both individually and as a team.”
