Born in Conegliano (Treviso) on November 9, 1974, Alessandro Del Piero made his Serie B debut playing for Padova at the age of only 16. The following year (1993) he was acquired by Juventus, the club which he would go on to captain, but also more generally he became an iconic symbol and standard-bearer of Juve in the footballing world. At Juventus, "Pinturicchio" won it all, both at a club level and for his national side. During this time, he became the club's record holder for goals scored and appearances made. His list of achievements includes 6 league titles, a Coppa Italia, 4 Supercoppe Italiane, a Champions League, an Intercontinental Cup and a European Super Cup. Towards the end of his career, he continued to play as an 'ambassador' of Italian football, first in Australia at Sydney FC, then in India at Delhi Dynamos.
Del Piero's time with the Azzurri at a senior level began on 25 March 1995 in Salerno, in the 4-1 win over Estonia in the EURO 1996 qualifying round. His first goal came a few months later, on 15 November in Reggio Emilia, in the 4-0 win over Lithuania. He was crowned World Champion in 2006 with Marcello Lippi's national team: he made five appearances in the run-up to the title, scoring a memorable goal in the semi-final against Germany. With 27 goals in 91 appearances, Del Piero is the National Team's fourth all-time top scorer, tied with Roberto Baggio. In 2017 he was inducted into the Italian Football Hall of Fame, 'Italian Player’ category.
