On Thursday 10 October, the Stadio Benito Stirpe in Frosinone will host the U20 Elite League match between Italy and England. It will be a jam-packed day of action for Lazio, with which the FIGC has signed a partnership agreement. At 20:45 CEST, the senior men’s team will also be in action, facing Belgium in the UEFA Nations League at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The partnership has already seen Italy U21s play in Latina (Italy 7-0 San Marino) and U20s play in Rieti (Italy 0-3 Germany).
Elena Palazzo, Lazio’s Councillor for Sport, Tourism and Environment says, “Thanks to this agreement with the FIGC, we have been able to bring international football to Lazio as we promised. We are proud to host the Italy U20s in Frosinone - seeing our young champions up close is a rare opportunity. We are also promoting the region to tourists with these sporting events and the slogan “Well-trained in Beauty”. We are revitalising the region: we want events of this calibre to spotlight our towns and cities, and to bring everyone closer to sport.”
This game against the English will be the Azzurrini’s third match in the competition which saw Italy winning in the last three editions. A victory in the Czech Republic in September (2-1, goals from Lipani and Ciammaglichella) and a defeat by Germany in Rieti (3-0) have so far paved the road to qualification for the 2025 World Cup in Chile. It will also be the U20s’ third time in Frosinone: in 2015 the team won against Germany (2-1, goals from Garritano and Gagliardini) at the Stadio Matusa, and in 2021 drew against Portugal (1-1, goal from Tongya) at the Stadio Stirpe.
PRESS are welcome to apply for a permit to the game from today onwards. Please email your name, surname, organisation and a copy of your company badge to press@figc.it.
