The Stadio Franco Ossola in Varese will host the friendly between the Under-20 National Team and Switzerland on Tuesday 27 September (kick-off TBD). The Azzurrini, who began their Elite League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Poland in San Benedetto del Tronto in June, will be busy with the second match of the tournament in Portugal on Friday 23 September before they face off in the friendly with their Swiss counterparts.
Carmine Nunziata will make his debut for the Under 20s from the dugout against the Portuguese, leading the group of players with whom he reached the semi-final of the European Under-19 Championship, securing a place at the World Cup planned for May 2023 in Indonesia.
Italy’s Under-20s will play in Varese for the second time in their history. The only previous occasion dates back to 30 April 2003 against Switzerland, winning 8-0 in the ‘old’ tournament format of the ‘Four Nations’. There have been 31 contests between the Under-20s and Switzerland, with a record of 15 Italian wins, nine defeats and seven stalemates.
