Nations League draw in Nyon today
22 November 2024
Tuesday, July 21, 2020
After having announced over the last few days the venues for matches in September and October, today, the FIGC named the host venues for the Azzurri’s matches in November. For the first time in the 110-year history of the Italy national team, there will be a fixture held in Benevento. Roberto Mancini’s side take on Estonia in a friendly at the Stadio Comunale Ciro Vigorito on Wednesday 11 November (20:45 CEST). A month earlier, the city in Campania will play host to the Italy U21s European qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 13 October (17:30 CEST). It will be a great way to celebrate Benevento’s promotion to Serie A, as Pippo Inzaghi, member of the Wolrd Cup winning squad in Germany, guided them to promotion from Serie B.
However, the Nations League fixture for Thursday 15 November against Poland will be played in the capital at the Stadio Olimpico. While Benevento is preparing to welcome the national team for the first time ever, Rome has hosted the Azzurri more than any other city: 59 games have been played in the capital (35 wins, 17 draws and seven defeats). It will be Italy’s first time back in the capital since the 2-0 win over Greece (goals from Jorginho and Bernardeschi), which saw the Azzurri mathematically qualify for EURO 2020. For a moment, Milan will catch Rome on 59 games, as the capital of Lombardy plays host to Italy vs. Netherlands on 14 October.
