FIGC on “BLM”: Azzurri free to partake, we support their choice
The Federation and the team stands against racism and discrimination, but imposed behaviour itself represents a form of abuse of powerMonday, June 28, 2021
The FIGC, in reaffirming its unequivocal opposition, along with all the Azzurri, to any form of discrimination, has taken the chance to allow the squad free-will as to whether to take the knee with the ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign.
As President Gabriele Gravina already said not one week ago, the FIGC believes that imposing a reaction on the players represents, in and of itself, a form of provocation and supports the Azzurri’s own choices during UEFA Euro 2020 games, including that against Belgium on Friday.
An outlook of sensitivity and protection of the human rights of all Italians is in the DNA of every member of the National Team. This is proven by the many initiatives and statements to that effect made by them, and ought not to be limited to the enforcement of one manifestation - and it is one of many - of support for the fight against racism.
