The Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca in Ascoli will host the Under-21 European Championship qualifying match between Italy and the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday 14 June. It’s the Azzurini’s last group game after the away matches against Luxembourg (6 June, Differdange) and Sweden (9 June, Helsingborg).
Italy, who defeated the Irish 2-0 in the match between the two sides in Dublin last November, return to Ascoli 50 years after their last match in the city, a 2-1 victory in a friendly against Yugoslavia, on 23 February 1972.
The Italians lead group F with 17 points on the board and are three points clear of Sweden, who are second, having played one more game. Paolo Nicolato's team will return to competitive action more than two months after their matches in March against Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina, the first ending (1-1) and the second, a 1-0 win thanks to Nicolò Rovella’s goal.
