EURO 2025 qualifiers: Cosenza to host Netherlands clash on 5 April before Finland (A)

It will be the Stadio San Vito-Gigi Marulla in Cosenza to host the first of the Women’s National team Euro 2025 qualifiers. Italy’s journey through Group 1 of League A will begin on Friday 5 April (18:15 CET) against the Netherlands and will continue on Tuesday 9 (18:15 CET) against Finland at the Helsinki Football Stadium.

Cosenza will see an Azzurre game once again after 28 years, the last fixture held there was a 2-1 win over England (goals from Carta and Morace) in a 1996 qualifying match for the Euros. The San Vito has also hosted the Azzurri (1967) and the Under 21s (1985 and 1988), as well as three games last year as part of Round 1 of Women’s Under 17 Euros qualifiers that saw Jacopo Leandri’s side go through to the next round, cheered on by a number of fans. This will be the 19th game against the Netherlands: the record is positive for Italy with 9 wins compared to the Dutch 4, including the most recent meeting, a friendly in Ferrara in June 2021 won 1-0 with a penalty from Girelli.

6 of the 12 games against Finland, including the last 3, finished in a draw. There have been 5 victories for Italy and only one defeat. Two Azzurre games have been played in Helsinki: once at the start of 2009 against the hosts, in a friendly that ended 3-2 to the Finns. The second was a Euros clash in the same year against Russia, defeated 2-0 by Ghedin’s squad, with goals from Gabbiadini and Zorri.
