The Under-20 national team ended their Elite league campaign in the best possible fashion: the Azzurrini won with a resounding 5-0, in Norway, against their Scandinavian hosts, with an impressive second-half showing. In the first minute of the second half, Vergani opened the scoring, following a couple of turns by Sekulov. Oristanio, on 70 minutes, made it 3-0, leaving plenty of time to appreciate Vergani's brace (75') and Leone's contribution, who gave the Azzurri their fifth in added time.
“I am really happy as this is a superb victory”, commented a jubilant coach Bollini at the end of the match, “and I congratulate both the staff and every player who has played their part on this journey: the way in which the players have responded to the last game of the tournament, with such enthusiasm, is proof that it is not only the technical project that has worked, but that many excellent rapports have also been created.
These lads have proven themselves all over Europe, losing only one match, in daring fashion. Furthermore, the fact that we have seen a good transition between the various national teams, with some of the lads who started with us, are now playing in the Under-21 team; the Azzurri conveyer of talented youth is working .”
Our match with Norway was the Azzurrini’s final encounter in the Elite league tournament, with Bollini’s men finishing on twelve points from their seven games played; the product of three wins, three draws (the last of which came last Thursday in Ascoli, against Germany) and only one defeat. According to the standings, the Azzurrini are still in with a chance of winning the tournament: it will all rest on the outcomes of the remaining games. In the event of a tie between Germany and England (tomorrow, Tuesday 29 March, at 20:30 CEST), Bollini’s students will mathematically finish in top spot.
