After opening their season with convincing friendly wins over Albania at Coverciano (4-1 and 6-0), the Under-17s are now set to feature in an international tournament in Portugal from 4 to 9 September, where they will face hosts Portugal, Serbia and Scotland.
Head Coach Daniele Franceschini’s 22-man squad features 19 players born in 2009, alongside three from 2010: Juventus defender Alessandro Ghiotto, Roma midfielder Mattia Guaglianone and Genoa attacking midfielder Roberto Scaglione.
The Azzurrini will play their opener on Thursday 4 September (12:00 CEST) against Portugal at the Estádio Municipal Manuela Machado in Viana do Castelo. They will then face Serbia on Saturday 6 September (16:00 CEST) at the Estádio Municipal da Coutada in Arcos de Valdevez, before taking on Scotland on Tuesday 9 September (11:00 CEST), again in Viana do Castelo.
The tournament will serve as another step in preparation for the first phase of Euro qualifying, scheduled from 1 to 7 October, where Italy will compete in Group 1 alongside Montenegro, Ukraine and hosts Estonia, who will also stage the final tournament in 2026.
