Corradi's 20 boys called up for the Euros: Monday departure for Hungary, first game against Spain 18 May

The last day of the training camp at the Centro Tecnico Federale for the National Under 17s who, on pitch 2 named after Enzo Bearzot, beat the Parma U17s 4-2 in a friendly thanks to goals from Seydou Fini (Genoa) 6', Lorenzo Riccio (Atalanta) 25', Tommaso Ravaglioli (Bologna) 43' and Gabriel Ramaj (Atalanta) 48'. In the afternoon, coach Bernardo Corradi finalised the list of the 20 man squad for the European Championships scheduled to take place between Tuesday 17 May to Friday 2 June in Hungary.

"The training camp was very positive," highlighted Corradi, "there was, as usual, the utmost desire from the boys who, in this period, worked really hard culminating with a great performance against a great side in Parma. We know that what awaits us is a very tough competition, there are some boys at their debut so, for them, it will be a further dose of emotion and, in this sense, they will have to be helped by their more experienced teammates. This, I won't hide it, is a bit of a special day," continued the coach, "because we had to make some choices and leaving some guys at home is never easy. In my opinion, our coordinator, Maurizio Viscidi, described the moment perfectly. He said that, never like today, it was difficult to exclude someone because the level of the players from which we could choose is very high. There is regret for the boys who will not be part of this expedition because it is also thanks to them that we have reached this point in the competition but we must reset because, from today, the European Championship begins".

The match. The Azzurrini, under the watchful eye of the 82' World Cup champion Giancarlo Antognoni, who was in the stands, took the lead at the start with a header by Fini, who skilfully deflected a free kick from the left by Riccio behind Testoni, before doubling the score thanks to the latter who, twenty minutes later, beat the keeper with a beautiful diagonal shot. In the first half, there was also room for Parma's first goal, a counter-attack by Nwajei materialised by Elia in the 34th minute, and for the third Azzurri goal, a penalty kick won by Matteo Cocchi (Inter) and scored by Ravaglioli. In the second half, after the predictable round of substitutions on both sides, Italy found the goal of the momentary 4-1 with Ramaj who, on the rebound of a close header by Giacomo De Pieri (Inter), scored the winning tap-in before the Gialloblù, just two minutes later (50'), shortened the distance again with Gemello.

Bernardo Corradi's 20 players, 18 born in 2006 and two in 2007 (Mattia Liberali from AC Milan and Giorgio Vezzosi from Sassuolo), will undergo their final training session at Coverciano on the morning of Monday 15 May before flying out in the afternoon, They will make their debut in Group B on Thursday 18th at 20:00 CEST against Spain at the BSC Stadium in Budaörs before facing Serbia at the Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium in Budapest on Sunday 21st at 20:00 CEST and, finally, Slovenia at the Telki Training Centre in Telki on Wednesday 24th at 17:00 CEST. The quarter-finals, to which the top two from each of the four four-team groups will qualify, are scheduled for Saturday 27th, the semifinals and the World play-off (which will see the two teams defeated in the quarter-finals with the best results in the group stage play each other) on Tuesday 30th, while the final will be staged on Friday 2nd June. The four semi-finalists plus the winner of the World play-off will qualify for the Under-17 World Cup scheduled from 10 November to 2 December.
