Comotto Scores in the Final Moments as Italy Also Wins the Second Friendly against Belgium
Following their 4-1 victory in Tuesday's match, the Azzurrini secure another win in Vercelli thanks to a goal scored late by Milan midfielder. Zoratto: "We have found quality players who have improved the groupThursday, February 15, 2024
After the 4-1 triumph over Belgium in the first friendly, the Under 16 National Team clinches a 1-0 victory against the Red Devils, courtesy of a late goal from Milan midfielder Christian Comotto. Despite a revamped lineup, with an entirely different starting eleven compared to Tuesday's match, Italy dominates proceedings at the 'Silvio Piola' stadium in Vercelli, seeing goals from Cristian Carrara (Inter) and Benit Borasio (Juventus) disallowed in the first half. Balanced until the end, the match is decided in the final minute: Christian Comotto, who came on in the second half, earns a penalty, which is initially saved by the Belgian goalkeeper, but he then converts the rebound to give the Azzurrini the victory.
"I am satisfied," commented coach Daniele Zoratto, "both because the team played good football and because during the tournament we found quality players who contributed to improving the group. Compared to the double friendly in November against the Czech Republic (a 2-0 defeat in the first game and a 2-2 draw in the second), we have taken a step forward. Usually, when playing two consecutive matches, there is a tendency to approach the second game more casually, but today the boys gave a very positive response."
