The First Team's training camp at Forte Village in Sardinia, where the Azzurri met up on Monday for a brief preparation period to rest and recuperate some physical and mental energy following the season, has ended with a friendly against Cagliari's Primavera side. It was a winning start in this warm-up game at the resort in Santa Margherita di Pula, where the squad also started their triumphant EURO 2020 campaign two years ago.
The Azzurri faced the young lads from Cagliari's Academy in a game divided into three halves of 20 minutes, with representatives of FIGC business partners, who took part in workshops organised by the Federation yesterday for the National Teams' sponsors, watching on from the sidelines. The game ended 12-0, with Mancini rotating his players around. After the first-half finished 6-0, thanks to a brace apiece for Retegui, Raspadori and Chiesa, the second part saw the team add another two goals courtesy of a Lorenzo Pellegrini penalty and a goal for Ciro Immobile. The final half ended 4-0 thanks largely to Nicolò Zaniolo's brace, with the other two coming from Locatelli and Raspadori, the latter the leading scorer in the game with a hat-trick.
The players now have a two-day rest before meeting back up at Coverciano on Sunday afternoon, with training scheduled for Monday, as preparations continue ahead of the Nations League Finals. Not returning will be Baschirotto, Buongiorno, Florenzi, Gatti, Locatelli and Zaccagni, while five players from Inter (Acerbi, Bastoni, Darmian, Dimarco and Barella) will join up following their involvement in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday.
