Alongside Spain and the Netherlands, Italy holds the record for most UEFA Nations League games played (20), having taken part in two Nations League finals (2021 and 2023). The Azzurri record sees nine wins, seven draws and four defeats (for an average of 1.70 points); they have scored 24 goals and conceded 18. The most common result collected was a 1-1 draw (four times, 0–0 three times). We have played nine different opponents so far with Poland the most commonly faced (four games, two wins and two draws).
In the three previous UNL competitions, all with Mancini in charge, we have fielded 65 players: Pellegrini is the striker of the tournament with four total goals; Donnarumma holds our record for appearances (20 in 20, 1,800 minutes), which is also a record for all League A participants; the Azzurri that follow are Barella (16), Jorginho (14) and Chiesa (12). El Shaarawy and Mazzocchi have played the least in the tournament with just one minute under their belts.
Milan (3) is the Italian city to have hosted the most games, followed by Bologna (2). Rome will host its first game of the competition in October (against Belgium).
In terms of referees, Jovanovic (Serbia) officiated two consecutive Italy games: the last match of the 2020/21 tournament in October 2021, against Belgium (third-place finish) and the first game of the 2022/23 tournament in June 2022, against Germany.
