Azzurre in Covercaino on Sunday, Marinelli called up for an injured Serturini ahead of Spain and Sweden

The Azzurre will resume their Nations League campaign in around a week. After the victory in the first match against Switzerland and the defeat to Sweden, Italy will play Spain at home on Friday 27 October at 17:45 CEST at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno. Then, the return leg against Sweden will be played on Tuesday 31 October at the Malmö New Stadium.

Due to a muscular issue, the Roma forward Annamaria Serturini has been forced to withdraw from the squad and will not respond to the call-up. In her place, Andrea Soncin has brought in the AC Milan player, Gloria Marinelli. The Coach has called up 28 players: aside from the Milanista, the new faces with regards to the last games in Group 4 are Lisa Boattin, Michela Catena, Cecilia Salvai and Martina Tomaselli. Michela Cambiaghi has received her first call-up to the senior team after previous experience in the youth sides.

The Italy squad will meet at the Federal Technical Centre in Coverciano on Sunday evening; they will arrive in Salerno on Wednesday 25 and will undergo their final preparations the following day at the Arechi Stadium. Tickets can be purchased via Vivaticket vendors and on the figc.vivaticket.it and vivaticket.com websites. The FIGC has decided to commit to affordable tickets for this game too, with full prices starting at €5 and a €1 ticket for Under-18s and Over-65s. Right after the game against Spain, the team will be back at Coverciano where they will stay until the departure for Sweden, scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday 29 October.

ITALY VS. SPAIN. There have been 17 meetings between the two sides, the last took place on 1 July 2022 at Castel di Sangro. It ended 1-1 with goals from Bergamaschi and the Ballon d’Or winner, Alexia Putellas. The total tally sees 11 Azzurre victories, 4 draws, and 2 Spanish victories. Salerno will host the Azzurre after almost 50 years since the last two games: the 2-1 win over Switzerland in 1970 and the 1-1 draw with Czechoslovakia in 1976.

SWEDEN VS. ITALY. Italy haven’t won against Sweden since the friendly in Cremona in 2018, won through Sabatino’s goal. Since then, Italy has picked up a draw and 2 losses, including the defeat in the second group stage of the Australia and New Zealand World Cup. The National team previously played in Malmö in 1990, drawing the qualifying match for the Euros the next year thanks to an equaliser from Carta following Sweden’s initial lead taken through Sundhage. The meeting at the New Stadium will be the 27th between the sides: 4 Italy victories, 5 draws, and 17 defeats.
